Animals in Thailand in Desperate Need of Help / Pet Bloggers Blog Hop

Dogs and puppies are so exhausted when they are finally rescued that they just lay down and cannot move. Photo courtesy of Soi Dog Foundation.

Dogs are trying to seek refuge in the trees in Thailand at this point as there is no where else for them to go. The few lucky ones have found multiple story buildings that are open to get away from the flood waters but there is nothing for the to eat there. Others have climbed to the roofs of their owners homes hoping someone will get them. Even the street dogs can’t survive like this much longer swimming for hours to try and find a dry bit of land to rest on. Animal rescuers are saying the situation is beyond desperate with upwards of 80,000 dogs and cats in need of saving because their owners had to leave before they were swept away in the flooding and had to leave their pets behind. The street dogs that were already using the resourced in the area are skittish and aggressive towards people trying to help them. On the complete other side of the spectrum are the family pets that are swimming out to the rescuers when they hear the human voiced calling for them. Some local residents were able to round up some of the animals into their homes which have not yet flooded and and left them a limited supply of food and water contacting rescuers to let them know who and what was left behind and what the animals there will need.

When the dogs are found and rescued they are brought into the makeshift rescue locations so tired they cannot move and just lay there. The rescue organizations across Thailand are starting to come together to try and help as many animals as possible pool their resources — time, money, and effort. Animals from majestic elephants forced to live on the top of a mountain because their sanctuary is underwater to monkeys stranded at temples with no access to food rely on the kindness of people to bring them fruits and dog kibble because that is the best they can do.

Even joined together the organizations are extremely low on funds and food. The same food that these dogs need desperately when they come into the rescue having swam for hours to try and find safety. They need food, water, and funds so they can rent the boats to go out and get the animals. They need funds to buy whatever food is available to help feed the animals they have already brought to safety but there are so many more to find.

If you would like to help out Soi Dog Rescue had set up a Paypal account so that they can accept International donations. http://www.soidog.org/en/flood-relief/ They are a legitimate well known rescue in Thailand and have teamed up with several other organizations.
