Toronto Police received multiple calls Sunday night about a child wandering through the streets in a diaper.
“We received reports of a very, very young child in a diaper, no other clothes on, no shoes, no socks. The neighbor actually heard a dog barking and looked out and saw the little girl there in nothing more than a diaper. That neighbor flagged down a police officer who was driving by at the time. The Police officer picked up the little girl and her dog and drove them to the Toronto Police Station.
Freckles the dog never left her side in fact the dog growled at the officer who was trying to help the little girl. The fact that the dog was so protective of the little girl warmed everyone’s hearts. The little girl told police her name was Chloe, but that was almost all police were able to get the little girl to tell them. They still could not figure out where the little girl lived or how or why she was wandering the streets in her diaper.
That is when police called NEWS9 for help. Five minutes after the story aired, police received a phone call from Chloe’s grandmother. Police then went to Chloe’s house to figure out what had happened. Chloe’s father was arrested and transported to the Jefferson County Jail. Chloe was taken into custody by child protective services, and Freckles the dog was released to family members.
So sad about the little girl – I can’t believe people can be so neglectful of a child… The dog by her side – I’m not surprised – dogs have a huge capacity to love and protect..
