Pet Store Will No Longer Sell Puppies

PJ’s Pets stores in Canada announced Tuesday that it will stop selling puppies as of September 1st and instead promote adoption a much more marketing friendly alternative. The company plans to promote adoption from animal shelters or humane societies. It has already adopted the policy in Atlantic Canada where its stores operate under the Pets Unlimited banner. The chain plans on working with local shelters to boost adoption efforts in its stores including offering space for brochures or posters of available dogs, and in some cases, providing actual kennel space.

To create awareness, the companies are launching the “Every Pet Deserves A Home Program”. The mission of the program is to help increase the visibility of pet adoption agencies within local communities by offering them space within their stores to educate people about participating organizations and the pets they have available for adoption.
