Meet Diamond a happy social little girl who playing with toys and other dogs. She loves people too eve though she lived the beginning of her life in such horrible conditions locked in a cage and starved.  Police confiscated Diamond, estimated at between eight and 12 months old, and took her to the shelter on April 2 after Snoop (you can read his story Couple Starved Pit Bull to Death) believed to be her litter mate was starved to death and his body left on the sidewalk. Diamond weighed just 19 pounds when police found her during a  search of the apartment she and Snoop lived in. It appeared her growth was stunted due to the conditions in which she was being kept.

“She grew only as big as her crate,” Oshkosh Area Humane Society staff said.

A veterinarian who examined Diamond at the time of her intake into the shelter said she was extremely thin with a distended abdomen and suffered from significant, diffuse atrophy of the abdominal muscles. Her poor condition and stunted growth was the result of insufficient nourishment.

Diamond has spent her time at the OAHS eating lots of food and learning how to be a dog. She has been socialized with other dogs in the shelter, plays with anyone that shows her attention, and has learned some basic obedience like walking on a leash and sitting on command. Officials say she is now ready to find her very own special home that will treat her like a precious Diamond. She is still very little and enjoys being a lap dog and giving kisses.
