How to Save Money on Dog Crates
If you are crate training your dog, you may have found out how expensive they can be. A large crate that your dog can be comfortable in can run well over $100 at your local pet store or chain store. Well the good news is, you can score a dog crate for less. Take a peek below at some simple tricks for how to save money on dog crates.
How to Save Money on Dog Crates – 6 Tips
1. Check out Craigslist
Check out www.craigslist.com to see if anyone is selling a dog crate in your area. Chances are you can find a used but in good condition crate for much less than retail. The seller may even deliver it for you. Check out Craigslist under the pets section and see what might be available. If you purchase a crate through Craigslist make sure that it does nto have rust on it. Not only is the rust bad for your dog but it could mean that that metal bars could break when your dog leans against them or tries to push their way out.
2. Ask about discount floor models.
Sometimes, stores will sell their floor models for less than the regular retail price. If you like the floor model, ask the manager if they are willing to sell it at a discount. It never hurts to ask, and in the end you can get a new dog crate for less!
3. Get on the list.
Be sure you are on the mailing lists of all of your favorite pet shops and supply stores. This way, you receive sale notifications and coupons as they become available. If you know you are going to need a crate soon, knowing when you can expect a sale or coupon can help you spend less.
4. Ask your friends.
Dog crates are one of those items many people have used at one point and probably have in their garage. Ask your friends if they know if anyone getting rid of one, you will be surprised at how many speak up! This is a great way to clear out some garage space for them and get a great deal for you. Again make sure that the crate does not have rust on it and if it does because it has been stored in the garage for several years that the rust washes off with a damp rang and the crate looks to be in perfect condition.
5. Look for coupon codes.
If purchasing a crate online, be sure to look for coupon codes that may be available. Go to sites such as coupon.com and retailmenot and search for the store. Any available offers will pop up. This is a great way to save a percentage off or possibly even score free shipping.

We found our (second) dog crate on CL. The lady I purchased it from, bought it to crate her dog back and forth to the vet but the dog hated going in it so she sold it to me for half-off the sticker price. I was more than happy!
