A person or persons broke into the Paws’n’Claws animal shelter in Attica, Indiana and tried to entice a fight between several animals. They took dogs who were in separate kennels and put them together with a cat and shut the door. They also took a kitten and through it in with a momma dog and her puppies. When the animal shelter staff arrived to work the following morning, they found a dead cat inside the cage with the two dogs. Both dogs were suffering from gashes and covered in blood. The kitten was also found dead inside the cage with the momma dog and her kittens though no word on how it died. Then animal shelter can house about 15 dogs and 15 cats but after gaining local attention after the awful break in the shelter has become a popular place for unwanted pets to be dropped off and they now have over 0 animals in their care and supervision.

Several kittens and one of the dogs who was forced to fight got sick immediately after the break in. Samples were collected and sent out for testing to see if some of the dogs and cat at the animal shelter were poisoned. Police said if the person or people responsible did poison the animals, they would not face an extra charge. Rather, their charge of Cruelty to Animals, would simply carry more weight.

“It will not make it any more serious, but each count will be a separate count on them and hopefully when it comes to the sentencing time, that will be taken into consideration if they did poison the animal,” said Attica Police Chief Bobby Bass.

Chief Bass said they have interviewed several people of interest and will conduct polygraph tests soon. He said he encourages anyone with any information to contact the Attica Police Department. Chief Bass said the reward for catching the persons responsible is now up to $4,000.

  2. I hope they catch the perpetrators.

  3. This is just sickening. If the animals were poisoned, that should be its own separate charge. The penalties for animal abuse are not stringent enough anyway.

Some of our neighbors run a “dog training” business. There are usually 5-6 dogs in the back (fenced) yard at any time. Not a problem. They come to the fence and bark at our dog and she barks back. Also not a problem. However, a couple of weeks ago, I heard something hit the chain-link fence when our dog was over by it. Then about 20-30 seconds later, I saw something whiz through the air and saw our dog duck and run for cover. I believe someone over there threw a rock at our dog, but cannot say for sure. If it ever happens again, this 50 year old, out of shape body will be up and over the fence before whoever is doing the deed can slink back into the house.
