Colorado Treasurer’s Office Dog Mascot Dies

Canine Cancer Project

For the past 10 years Buckley the dog (a Golden Retriever) served as the unofficial mascot of the state treasurer’s office. U.S. Rep. Mike Coffman, began bringing Buckley to the office when he was a puppy and Coffman was the state treasurer. he greeted guests went around and gave out plastic cups for coffee, was happy to go out for a few minutes to get fresh air with any of the employees, and was a welcome break from the monotony of the daily work week.

Though Coffman was no longer the Treasurer of Colorado by popular demand Buckley the dog stayed on the job going into work everyday come rain or shine. Even when Coffman won a Congressional seat Buckley would be driven to work by Coffman’s wife who worked across the street.

Buckley the dog though sick with Cancer went to work anyway enjoying the company of the workers in the Treasurer’s office while his own family was working. According to his family he went to work on Friday and at around midnight on Friday night he was showing signs of distress and by then there was nothing the Emergency Veterinarian could do to save Buckley’s life. His cancer had progressed too far and he had to be Euthanized.
