Will You Tune Into DogTV

DogTV

There is a new channel being tested in California called DOGTV. The channel and has nearly 800 programs already in the line up for dogs, each lasting about three to five minutes long to fit a dog’s short attention span. The content is color-adjusted and audio-engineered specifically for dogs and is designed to relax dogs and keep them at ease when the owner isn’t around.

DOGTV was created to reduce the stress level of home alone dogs. Separation anxiety is one of the most common behavioral issues in the US, in which the dog finds it difficult to be separated from its owner. Many owners have a dog walker who comes in during the day to walk the dog, but this could sometimes add a second separation anxiety symptom – first from the owner and second from the walker. DOGTV is all about helping dogs, so they will feel less sad and less stressed when left home alone. DOGTV’s relaxing sounds, special music and fun visuals, provide the perfect company for dogs so that they never have to feel alone again.

DOGTV’s scientifically designed content is divided into 3 categories, according to what dogs need:

Relaxation – content designed to help the dogs relax, reduce their stress level and keep them calm through soothing music, sounds and visuals.

Stimulation – dogs need to be stimulated, which is hard to achieve when they are home alone. DOGTV uses stimulating scenes with and without other animals, animation sequences and a variety of moving objects to stimulate the dogs. Great care is taken to use just the rights sounds and frequencies to encourage the dog’s playfulness even when home alone.

Exposure – based on the most advanced veterinary science, DOGTV uses special sounds and visuals to help habituate the dog and make him more comfortable in his environment, by exposing him to different day-to-day stimuli.

How the color process works:

I get why they would show relaxation or things to keep your dog stress free and want to sleep while you are away but I am not sure I understand why you would want to stimulate your dog while they are home alone during the day. If the stimulation programming is only on at night well should the pet be interacting with its family members and not sitting in front of the tv?

  1. You bet we’re going to watch it! Think it is a great idea.

  2. The stimulation programming is on only at night? Interesting … Otherwise I could see that. It seems quite similar to Stanley Coren’s dog videos, except those are just couple DVDs and this would have more variety.

    • I don’t know when it is on. I just think it weird that you would want to stimulate your dog while they are home alone. Wouldn’t that lead to destructive behavior or barking at the tv? That’s why I said maybe it is only on at night.

  3. I don’t think my dog would sit still long enough to watch tv!?! LOL!

Love It! I used to leave the radio no for my dog when I worked. Classical calmed him, and rock – well I would find a pillow torn up. Wish they had this back then!

  5. Its an interesting concept! I dont know if they would sit there to watch it but worth a try
