Puppy Rescued by Hockey Players

Prince Albert Raiders Hockey Players

Three hockey players rescued a young puppy from below freezing temperatures in Saskatchewan after seeing a woman dump a puppy into the back of a parked truck earlier this week as temperatures dipped to -40 F. What they found was a small puppy freezing and showing signs of skin issues and felt they should call the police.

They found a freezing pooch showing serious signs of neglect, so they decided to call police. When police arrived they found the men had wrapped the puppy in one of their sweatshirts in an effort to try and warm it up and make it comfortable. Police took the young puppy to the SPCA, where it is being treated for what is believed to be some form of non-contagious mange that young puppies sometimes get when not given the care they need. This form of mange is passed from mother to puppy but is usually not an issue when puppies are healthy and given proper nutrition to keep their bodies working properly. The puppy will be in foster care until he is well enough and able to stay off the antibiotics and anti itch medications so he can grown back hair and begin to live a normal puppy life.

  1. Last September, I was driving along a fairly busy street and saw a pickup truck about a half mile ahead of me throw something out on the side of the road. When I got closer, I could see the bag was moving. I stopped, and inside a Walmart bag, taped up with duct tape, was a puppy. He only had one eye open, and no teeth. I took him home, got formula, and have raised this pup. He is absolutely adorable, has been to the vet several times, has had all of his shots and has been neutered. I absolutely love him. How can people do things like this to innocent animals??

    • That puppy sure lucked out that you were there and saw what happened. I don’t know how people can do things like that 🙁

    Topical antipruritics in the form of creams and sprays are often available over-the-counter. Oral anti-itch drugs also exist and are usually prescription drugs.^*-;
