National Mutt Day

National Mutt Day was created to raise awareness of the plight of mixed breed dogs in shelters around the nation and to educate the public about the sea of mixed breed dogs that desperately await new homes. There are millions of loving mixed breed dogs sitting in shelters, who are desperately searching for a new home.

Photo one: The original Old Yeller was a 170 lb. Labrador Retriever/Mastiff cross, adopted from the Van Nuys CA Animal Shelter.

I really don’t remember Old Yeller being anything other then a yellow lab nor do I remember him being unusually big compared to my own childhood black lab. Maybe its because I haven’t seen the movie since I was a little girl though.

Photo Two: The original Benji was a Spaniel mix adopted from the Burbank Animal Shelter.

Who wouldn’t love that adorable face? Such a smiling happy dog.

I encourage people to go to a shelter and adopt a animal. Are little bird dog kate, came from a shelter. Kate lived to be old and was the best dog we could have adopted. We really miss Kate!
