200 beds were delivered to and assembled at the OC Animal Shelter, thanks to the efforts of Stella’s Hope, a Costa Mesa-based dog rescue group. Close to 50 volunteers assembled the beds on a makeshift assembly line adjacent to the kennels filled with dogs. The dogs were very curious about what what going on outside their kennels and did a lot of sniffing before laying down on the nice new beds and blankets delivered to them. Before the Bed and blankets they slept on the concrete floor which is heated.
The main mission of Stella’s Hope is to save dogs at the shelter slated for euthanasia. Griggs the founder of the organization felt that since OC Animal Shelter is a kill shelter that the dogs there deserve to have something special in their limited time left. To gather support for Saturday’s Christmas delivery Griggs and other dog rescue groups got word out on their websites and Facebook pages. The drive started about a month ago. Myles spent hours cutting the canvas and PVC pipes to craft the beds as part of a Girl Scout award projectisitors to Stellashope.org could order Kuranda beds and have them delivered from the manufacturer directly to Griggs.
25 of the beds donated on Saturday were built by Pamela Myles, a 16 year old Girl Scout as one of her special projects for the year.
