11th Annual Best Friends Pet Care Drive – Angel Tree Campaign To Help Homeless Pets

Animal lovers can share their holiday spirit with pets in need throughout the month of December by donating food, supplies or cash to the 11th Annual Best Friends Pet Care Angel Tree campaign, which will benefit more than 70 community animal shelters across the U.S.

Each of the 42 Best Friends Pet Care centers has an Angel Tree in its lobby. The tree is decorated with paper ornaments featuring photos and information about dogs and cats waiting for forever homes, along with a wish list of supplies, toys and treats needed to care for them. Pet lovers can select a specific dog or cat from the tree and shop from that wish list, or can make a cash donation to benefit the shelter. Anyone can support the campaign by visiting www.bestfriendspetcare.com to locate the nearest Best Friends center. Donations can be made either in person of by phone.

“The holiday season can be challenging for local shelters and rescues, says Renee Coughlin of Best Friends Pet Care.  “Donations of food and funds fall off and regular volunteers are preoccupied.  Many of our Angel Tree beneficiaries tell us they depend upon the Best Friends Angel Tree program to get through the holiday season.”

The program runs through January 2nd, with deliveries being made to the shelters throughout the holiday season. Best Friends supplements donations with food and other supplies.  Beneficiaries range from large animal shelters like the Central Florida SPCA and the Southside Animal Shelter in Indianapolis to small rescue groups like Save a Dog in Texas and Big Fluffy Dog Rescue in Massachusetts.  Since the beginning of the Angel Tree Campaign in December 2000, Best Friends Pet Care with the help of their clients and animal lovers has provided hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of food, toys and pet care products to more than 75 different shelters and rescues across the U.S. and dozens of pets have found new homes in time for the new year.

Did you know that Best Friends Pet Care offers all new clients one free night stay at their kennel facilities? That’s how much they know you will like their services. Davinia and Indiana got to spend a night at their Orlando Facility on Disney property — they had the best time (you can check out the pictures from their visit in our Flickr account which you can find a link to on our sidebar) . The staff there was very attentive to their needs and were willing to go the extra mile not just for us but for everyone who brought their dogs in to board. Since they got to stay at the Disney location and I was staying nearby I got to stay with them while they had dinner and then took them out to play in the play yard before I left them for the night and then we got to play again before we got back in the car for the rest of the ride home to Miami. I personally wouldn’t be able to afford to put them in one of the special suites I would board them in their less posh accommodations and know they would be just fine.
