What is Pinterest?

Pinterest is a virtual pinboard. Pinterest allows you to organize and share all the beautiful things you find on the web anything from pictures of your favorite animal to your favorite recipes to where you wish you could be vacationing this year. You can browse pinboards created by other people to discover new things and get inspiration from people who share your interests or explore new things.

People use pinboards to plan their weddings, decorate their homes, and share their products. It is also a fun way to share your passions with others when you have no where else to share them.

What is a Pin anyway?

A pin is an image added to Pinterest. A pin can be added from a website using the Pin It button, or you can upload images from your computer. Each pin added using the Pin It button links back to the site it came from so you don’t have to worry about getting the author’s permission or find the original sourse of a picture. You can then use the embed code generated from Pinterest to add the pictures to a blog post or use the share buttons to share on Facebook, Twitter, and Tumblr. When someone sees the image they can then choose to find out more about it like in the case of a recipe (for making dogs treats) they will be directed to the source of the image.

What is a board and why do I want multiple boards?

A board is a set of pins. A board can be created on any topic, such as Fairies or beautiful gardens. You can add as many pins to a board as you want and create as many new boards as you feel the need for. If you have a following you will want to create multiple boards so that people can follow just one of your boards or all of them. By categorizing your pins and making them easier for people to find you will be re-pinned when people search for images. Plus by not putting all of your interests and images on one board you will be able to find that awesome recipe you pinned last week or that cute idea for your nails for Halloween without going through all of your images.

When you receive an invite, you can register via Facebook Connect or connect through Twitter. We recommend this step don’t worry all of your pins will not automatically appear as an update on  Facebook or Twitter you will be asked if you would like to do so when you pin an item to your board. What it does do is connect to see if any of your Facebook friends or Twitter followers are currently on Pinterest and will automatically follow them for you so you can see what they are pinning and start to share with them.
