Can Dogs Really Help You Find A Date

The viral dating video of the cat lady might have been a marketing ploy for an online dating service but does having a pet especially a dog give men a better chance at finding a date? According to several studies conducted by various organizations the answer is yes – at least the men believe it does.  Apparently one in eight men will take their dog for a walk for an afternoon at the park because they think that women are more likely to approach them and strike up a conversation if they are walking a dog. Men truly believe that women will feel they are more approachable because of the dog.

Certainly a woman who likes dogs is more likely to say hello to a complete stranger who is walking their dog then if they didn’t have a dog with them but are the women really talking to the men or are they just the person on the other end of the leash with the true object of their desire being the dog. And then there is the question of does it matter what kind of dog the man is walking? Some studies says it does and gives the list of breeds. While I am likely to stop and say hello to any dog Purebred or Mutt none of the dogs on the list are ones I find particularly impressive ok so maybe one on the list the English Springer Spaniel if it was well put together might make me stop a little longer to say hello. A big tough man that can pull off any of the toy breeds would be more impressive then a man walking a Pit Bull with a giant metal chain around its neck.

According to research done for the launch of the video game The Sims 3 Pets:

seventy per cent of single women think petting an adorable dog is a good way to start talking to an attractive stranger, with 52 per cent admitting they find it less embarrassing than approaching the owner directly.

The real question is how often does this really seal the deal and result in coffee let alone a real date? Not a plan to meet the nect Saturday at 9am to walk your dogs together but dinner and a movie?
