Pedigree to Donate 27,000-lbs of Dog Food to Hurricane Irene Flood Victims

149 of you  participated in the Write a Post, Help a Dog 2011 Campaign  with Pedigree and Pedigree Foundation earlier this month. It might not have been as big of a turn out as we had hoped as our goal was to raise 10,000lbs of food but we did have to contend with Hurricane Irene blowing through in the middle. We all know that when faced with something as major as a natural disaster blogging wasn’t necessarily the biggest thing on everyone’s minds that weekend. Still a valiant effort and huge thanks to those who participated because at 20-lbs. per blog post, 2,980-lbs. of new dry recipe Pedigree food will be going to homeless dogs that will make for a lot of full tummies and got the ball rolling on what I am about to tell you.

Pedigree and the Pedigree Foundation were watching the storm as it made landfall going up the East Coast in order to figure out what they could do to help make the biggest impact for those effected. (As a Pedigree Sponsored Blogger to BlogPaws 2011 I was actually sitting next to people from the Pedigree team talking about the Hurricane making landfall and how the animals will be effected and what kinds of supplies might be needed to help.)

After leaving BlogPaws and receiving damage reports from cities all along the East Coast Mars Petcare made the decision that they would like to donate 27,000lbs of dog food to those hardest hit by the Hurricane. After carefully assessing the most pressing needs in the areas affected by the storm, Mars Petcare has determined we can all make the biggest impact by donating the food to RescueBank—a national pet food distribution organization working to get dog food to where it’s needed most in the Albany, New York area.

What that means is it is not too late for you to blog about the Write a Post Help a Dog Campaign and tell your readers and friends about the huge donation of dog food Pedigree will be making to RescueBank in order to reach as many homeless dogs in  local shelters as possible.

A little more about the Write a Post Help a Dog Campaign:

The Write a Post, Help a Dog program is aimed at raising awareness of the more then 4 million dogs that wind up in shelters and breed rescues each year. As well as to help feed the more than four million dogs that wind up in shelters and breed rescues each year. Even though the official campaign is over by writing a post now you are still raising awareness of the dogs in shelters that need a home.

The Write a Post Help a Dog Campaign is also aimed at raising awareness of the The Pedigree Foundation — a 501 (C)(3) nonprofit organization is committed to helping dogs by providing grants to shelters and rescues and encouraging dog adoption. This year the Foundation has already raised more than $376,570 against its goal of $1.5 million to carry out its work to fund grants that not only help shelters operate, but to further shelter innovations.

As a thank you from Pedigree for partnering with them on the Write a Post Help a Dog Campaign they are offering 10% of all Dogs Rule gear if you enter promo code BlogPaws10 at checkout anytime before the end of the month.  All the proceeds of sales goes directly back into the Pedigree Foundation to help shelter dogs find loving homes.

Pedigree wants everyone to feel like they are able to help the dogs that were effected by the Hurricane so if you would like to write a blog post you can consider it the same as if you went to your local store bought a 20lb bag of dog food and then shipped it to a shelter that was damaged by Hurricane Irene. Only you never had to leave your chair and you don’t have to lug the 20lb bag of food around town. In case you are worried that your post will not really count 27,000 lbs divided by 20lbs per post equals 1350 blog posts so a whole lot of bloggers can still participate and feel that they have helped.

Feel free to take the information and graphics from this post for your own post and spread the word about the 4 million dogs that get admitted into shelters and breed rescues each year. The list will be open until Monday September 19th.
