Green-winged macaws Elvis and Cilla have been on duty at the MP Guarding security company, in Telford, Shropshire, UK for the past year. The birds learned how to bark like dog from the neighbors Scottie  that would bark often while the family was living in Spain. When the family returned to the UK, they had the idea of using the birds as guard dogs at their security firm and it has paid off. Somehow the birds have learned to not only bark like dogs but when to employ their special skill in order to scare people into thinking there are two very upset dogs just waiting for them to enter the property.

Elvis, six, and three-year-old Cilla aren’t always barking like dogs – they can be quite affectionate and friendly parrots, asking for kisses, greeting the family when they walk in the door with a  ‘hello’ and the macaw pair love treats so much that when give one they use the word ‘fabulous’.  They’re part of the family.

There are many reasons a Parrot may pluck its feathers out not all of them signal neglect, stress, or dietary imbalance. Parrots are very emotional animals and show their emotion by plucking their feathers. A mate can be over zealous in cleaning, or the parrot could be reaching maturity and the new jolt of hormones can trigger a feather plucking response. It could also be a sign of twice yearly molting which takes place in the Spring and Fall much like with our four legged friends who shed twice each year. Parrots need constant  love and care from the human they bond with as well as veterinary care from someone who specializes in Exotics and Avian care in order to keep them healthy.
