Puppy to Recieve New Paws

Angel in the garden (KATHARINE LOTZE/Yakima Herald-Republic)

A seven week old puppy was turned over to rescue because she was born without her two back paws. Her name is now Angel, and she is black Pit Bull puppy with white markings on her face, she was born without rear paws. The foster home she was placed in while help could be found for her said she loved being out in the garden where she would bunny hop around like a little bunny exploring and playing. Angel apparently doesn’t even know she is special they say she is a happy little girl that has figured out how to get around all on her own.

The rescue she is with decided that the best chance she has at a happy life as she gets older is if she receives prosthetic paws. They have lined up a whole team of people to help get little Angel to California where she will await her new paws. She was flying in style with the help of Pilots N Paws a group of private pilots who have their license to fly small planes and want to use their time in the air to help transport animals from their foster homes to permanent homes or from shelters to the rescue that will place them. Angel was even going to be spending some time with one of the pilots while the awaited her connecting flight.

In the right home Angel might not need prosthetics but the rescue would rather give her the best chance of finding the perfect home as possible and that means giving the special little girl to a Rescue that specializes in Pit Bulls and dogs with special needs. As she grows and her bones become more solid she will be brought to the specialist to see if they can build her prosthetic paws. Until then she will be welcomed with open arms into her foster home and loved and cared for until the decision is made.

    Hello-
I was one of two rescue volunteers from Wags to Riches Animal Rescue in Yakima Washington, who picked up Angel from her surrendering owners, after they made the decision to get her the help they could not provide. We have since, spayed the momma dog so no more accidental breedings will take place. Angel won over every heart she came into contact with. She truly has no idea she should feel sorry for herself. She is sweet, fun, playful and all puppy. Her journey from Yakima to California and her current foster home was a beautiful effort that took quite a bit of choreographing, timing and effort. Thanks need to be made to Laura of Healing Heart Sanctuary, who arranged Angels trip from Yakima to California. Without Laura’s help, Angel’s life would have turned out quite different. Pilots for Paws is an amazing group of pilots whose selfless efforts make the difference in many a rescue’s life. We are especially grateful to Angels current foster, who without a single thought, agreed to take this precious little life into her home and see to it she gets the love and care she needs until she is ready to face the world with four feet instead of two. What a huge, wonderful collaberation.

  3. I was Angel’s owner and surrendered her so that she could have a better life. I am a huge believer in rescues, and I love Wags to Riches. I can honestly say that they are the one of three rescues that I will ever trust. This beautiful Angel was not easy to let go of. I waited for two years on an update about her, and when I finally found out where she was at, I also found out that one of the “volunteers” a female, was saying how she was fired because I was a backyard breeder, used my animals for dog fighting and said that if Wags didn’t come get this puppy she would be killed, and that I lied to Becky when she and another lady came out to pickup Angel from my house. I never said any of those things, and never bred my two dogs, they were brother and sister, and were never supposed to breed. We didn’t want any of our animals to have babies. I am an animal lover, and it tears me up to hear such lies about me. I also found out that Angel had passed the Canine Good Citizenship (I think I said that correctly) and was doing very well, then all of a sudden in summer of 2013, the foster home where she was at (belonged to someone who runs another rescue on the west side of the cascade mountains) said that she had to put my sweet Angel to sleep forever, because of “stupid backyard breeders” and once again humans failed. I want to thank Wags to Riches for being an honest, trustworthy rescue, and for doing everything you can do for our animals. Even though talking about Angel still makes me cry, I want people to know the truth about where she came from.
