Greenwich Village is known for its bars, clubs, and fancy brunches but it is also home to several pet stores with overpriced Puppy Mill dogs. The stores are there for a reason because they know people will pay their ridiculous prices for badly bred Chihuahuas and fluffy white little puppies on a whim. But in this particular case at least the store owners are putting their foot down even if the reason behind it is profit and not really the health of the puppies. Let’s face it if a fragile little Chihuahua gets dropped by a drunk visitor it would be hard to sell the puppy with a broken leg. So the new rule is that people can look at the puppies in the window or go into the store and look at the puppies but they are not allowed to pick up or buy the puppy if the owner or the workers at the store believe they may be intoxicated.
To highlight another reason why the puppy stores are banning the sale of puppies to anyone they think is drunk can be seen in this little tidbit. “Four-years ago on St. Patrick’s Day, a couple came into the store and spent $3,500 on an English Bull Dog and a Miniature Pinscher. The morning after, the couple returned to the store, apologized to Jacoby, and gave the dogs back. according to dnainfo.com
Hmmm…. how about we just ban anyone from going to a store to buy a puppy works better for me.
Even though the pet store owners’ motivations are less than stellar, I’m glad this policy is being put into place.
I read this story earlier today. Dreadful. But I agree with Miss Kodee that dogs (and cats) shouldn’t be on sale in shops where people can just buy them on impulse without being checked out first.

it is ridiculous that this even happens! I am not a fan at all of live animals in pet stores, but really? Grow up drunk people!
With all the homeless animals in the world, why are people buying dogs from stores????
