Wow! Wait a minute. Dogs that chase people are considered dangerous in Savannah and need to be micro-chipped, muzzled in public, and properly penned in the same manner as a dog who bites as well as holding $25,000 worth of extra insurance on the dog (try finding an insurance company that would write a policy on a Yorkie that was deemed dangerous). Who exactly determines if the dog that got loose from its yard and sees people outside or hears them and comes running over to play is dangerous? Even the friendliest Labrador or Golden Retriever will run after someone who runs away from it thinking it is a big fun game of chase with a new friend. Is that dog now considered dangerous? Someone who doesn’t know anything about dogs and is scared of the situation will perceive it in a lot different light then someone who owns a dog and knows the dog just wanted to come over and be with people to say hello, get pet, and play. If you run the dog will chase you no matter how friendly or well trained. Chase is a game. Dogs want to be with people we give them love and attention food and water. If a dog grows up socialized and in a loving environment everyone it meets is a new friend and playmate. Now what?
Does the Maltese that runs to the door when the mailman comes to deliver a box without you noticing because they want to say hello to the visitor now need to be considered a dangerous dog? What if the dog happens to be a Great Dane or a Dogue de Bordeaux are they considered dangerous because they ran out and wanted to play all because they happen to be very big dogs? I do realize that not all dogs are friendly or want to play and can get frightened or startled and act in a manner completely different then normal if they find themselves running free and not sure what to do. The person they come up on only looking for help to get home reacts in a way they are not used to and the dogs gets upset and starts to bark. Now the dog ran over which could be construed as chasing and started barking so forever more they are deemed dangerous.
Is there some sort of checklist that needs to be gone through in order to determine if the dog meets the criteria? Or is the dog determined to be dangerous by the person who see the dog running over because there are people so scared of dogs that a Chihuahua running over would be too much for them and freak them out. I think the word chase is too general of a term and can mean something very different to different people.

Wow. I better tell my neighbor that his 8lb min-pin is considered dangerous. Why the way she comes running toward me to see if I have goodies in my pockets might just be scary to someone who has lived under a rock all their lives. Ohhhh and what about my other Neighbor’s mixed breed dog that runs around trhe lake chasing the kids who are trying to fish. The kids are laughing but I guess that could be dangerous as well. Who comes up with this crap?
