The Lioness and the Baby

A family visits the zoo to meet all the animals and have a nice day when something completely unexpected happens. The Lionesses are out and about in their enclosure when the head female of the pride spots the young toddler looking through the glass. The Lioness stops what she is doing to come and see the baby up close. What follows is amazing to watch. While I have no Wild Cat experience the behavior this lioness is displaying does not look at all threatening or fierce. If anything she wants to say hello to the toddler she wants to get closer to him. Its almost as if she wants to nurture the baby and care for him. The entire female population of the pride is there by her side watching. Not a single one show any aggression. It seems that there is something special about this toddler and the lioness knows it.

  1. She looks very, very curious about the toddler; it certainly doesn’t look like she’s “trying to eat the kid.” At least, not if you’ve ever watched cats play together, or mother cats with their kittens. But then, if people were in the habit of actually watching what animals are doing and paying attention to their body language, we wouldn’t have so many dog bite cases where everyone insists “the bite was completely unprovoked and the dog gave no warning.”

    Very cute, in any case.
