Owner Takes Dog for Walk Finds Family of Deer in the Middle of Chicago

Mother deer and twin fawns who took up residence in the middle of Chicago.

When the family of deer were first spotted and reported to Police and Animal Control a little over a week ago the hope was the mother and her twin babies would move from the area to a quieter location in the forest somewhere. Animal Control was monitoring the situation and had asked through local media that people not go near or feed the deer or her babies. But apparently they were too big of a crowd draw and reports of people feeding the mother deer apples from the nearby Whole Foods and milk in baby bottles to her twins when she is off looking for food have come to the attention of Animal Control.

Animal Control, which has been monitoring the situation does not usually step in and take action when wild animals are found in residential neighborhoods unless of course the animal is in danger from the situation or poses a threat to the community. Which in this case did not apply. In the past when deer had come to visit the middle of Chicago they have always found their way back to the wild on their own after finding the area to be unfriendly. Even the signs put up in the area asking people not to feed the animals were taken down.

Now the difficult task of moving the mother deer with her twin babies is going to have to occur. It is a difficult task because normally the deer would be tranquilized in order to be moved so they don’t injured themselves or those trying to help them but because she is nursing her young Animal Control does not feel that is a viable option. Her milk would not be suitable for the babies while the chemicals are leaving her system.
