Girl’s Last Wish to Compete in Dog Show Comes True

Alice Pyne spent Saturday showing her Yellow Labrador, Mabel, at a specially-hosted charity event in her honor. The 15-year-old created her now world-famous “bucket list” online after a four-year-battle with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, which her doctors now believe she is loosing. One of her biggest dreams that she included on her Bucket List was to show her Yellow Labrador puppy in a dog show. Simon and Cathy Broomfield, owners of Ulverston’s Verstone Boarding Kennels, heard about her bucket list and offered to host Alice’s Companion Dog Show on the grounds of their kennel. Dog owners from the surrounding area were invited to come along and support Alice’s cause. Turn out they did to help make Alice’s dream a huge reality. All the money made from entries into Saturday’s dog show will be shared between Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity, Anthony Nolan Trust, and Cancer and Bio-detection Dogs.

Alice showed Mabel in the very first class of the day – Any Variety Puppy (up to 12 months old). Mabel performed like a well seasoned champion making her owner proud, as she kept to heel and performed perfectly in front of the judge. Everyone in attendance applauded when Alice and Mabel were awarded first prize in the category.

Seasoned dog show attendees along with everyday pet owners came out to to help support Alice and the charities she supports. Season Dog Show participants said it was a really lovely, fun day to just be able and come out without any pressure on them or their dogs to perform but allowed them to come out and support a worthwhile event doing what they love to do.

Alice posted on her blog yesterday about her big day in the dog show ring:
This is my happy post! Yesterday I had another best day. I had my very own dog show and Mabel did really well and we won loads of rosettes and I didn’t stop smiling all day. Loads of doggy people came along and Mabel loved playing with all the other dogs and her best friend from puppy classes came along.

We were raising money for Great Ormond Street Hospital, Anthony Nolan Trust and for Cancer Bio Dogs who train dogs to sniff for cancerous changes in our wee which is a bit yucky but amazing. The lady who came from Cancer Bio Dogs asked if they can call their next puppy Alice, after me. So Alice will be around for years helping save lives.
