Dog Adoption Fee Waived Kent Washington

Regional Animal Services of King County is a joint effort between 26 partnering municipalities (including Kent and Tukwila) and unincorporated King County to advance safety and animal welfare. Due to an influx of recent arrivals at the Kent shelter, RASKC is looking to find good homes for all of its dogs and will waive the adoption fee for adult dogs from now through the end of May. “Because we don’t euthanize adoptable pets, space can sometimes get tight at the shelter,” said shelter manager Ken Nakatsu. “By temporarily waiving the adoption fee for adult dogs, we’re hoping to get more of them into loving, permanent homes. This is an excellent opportunity for anyone looking for a new member of the family.”

Through the end of May the adoption fee for dogs over six months old will be waived. Residents can take home their new pet for just the cost of the license, a savings of $75 to $250. All pets from animal services are spayed or neutered, vaccinated (including rabies vaccination), and have received a health exam. Available pets can be seen at the shelter, 21615 64th Ave. S. in Kent, or online at www.kingcounty.gov/pets.

The shelter is also seeking volunteers to provide foster homes for both dogs and cats. “Fostering a dog or cat is easy to do, and we provide almost everything you need,” said Sarah Luthens, manager of volunteer programs at RASKC. “The pet benefits from being in a family environment, you benefit from having a loving, if temporary, companion, and it reduces the space crunch at the shelter.” Once an animal is placed in a foster home, animal services provides pet food, cat litter, a litter box, and medical care for the pet at no cost to the foster family.

Foster training sessions will take place today Thursday, May 19 from 5:30-7 p.m. at the Kent shelter. To sign up for a session, call 206-296-3946 or email [email protected]. as well as each Thursday in June.

About Kiah

Hi, my name is “Kiah” and I’m at the King County Animal Care and Control shelter in Kent waiting for a new home. You can also find me by my ID #A051210. I am about 2 and 1/2 years old and weigh about 43 pounds. I am a sweet girl who is a little nervous around new people. Please be patient with me when I am first getting to know you. Once I get to know you, I am very sweet and affectionate. I am good on a leash and know how to sit on command.

I get along very well with dogs who want to run and play, but I might be too energetic for some dogs to deal with. I would like to meet any other dogs in your home before I get adopted by you. Also, I can be possessive of toys so I would do best in a home without any kids. I know how to sit on command and walk well on a leash, but I don’t respond well to calls to come back when not on a leash. I would do best in a home with experienced dog owners who can help train me to come back when called. If you have patience and kindness and want to help me out, please come and see me! Please come and see me today!

I am one of many dogs at RASKC eagerly awaiting my new home!
