Moisturize for Itch Free Skin and a Brilliant Coat
It happens every winter about this time. Davinia and Indiana start to itch more. Their skin gets dry and flake-y it doesn’t matter what food or healthy oil I give them it always happens. Their color gets less vibrant and worn out looking. It is a given. I am sure that many of you reading this post have been there or are currently trying to figure out what to do. Brushing helps a little to get rid of the dead fur but leaves behind flakes of dandruff. Giving your dogs regular baths in the winter doesn’t really happen. Between the cold and rain and sometimes freezing temperatures. Yes, we could all blast the heat during bath time so that no one gets too cold and there are hair dryers but both of those options only stand to make their skin drier.
Not only that but we had a heat wave in the middle of the winter this year and the girls started to Blow Coat! Just as the temperatures started to drop again out came all of their winter coat. Of course that isn’t stopping the girls from spending time in the yard and when they aren’t in my bed they are on the stairs sleeping in the sun. But their coats are a big giant mess. Knowing from experience that this was coming I made sure to have something on hand to combat the Itch and Dull Coat. Which is why when Bayer® came to me and said help share our Spot on Moisturizer I got so excited. Here is what they say about it. ExpertCare Spot-On Skin Moisturizer is formulated with essential fatty acids to help support skin hydration. This quick, convenient application can help maintain your dog’s full, healthy coat and support coat shine. Perfect!
Bayer® ExpertCareTM to the Rescue!
The first thing I did was brush Davinia and Indiana really well to try and get all of the dead fur. I know from experience that this alone makes a huge difference in making their coat look better and more vibrant. Plus giant balls of fur all over the house are not really appealing. Once they were brushed really well and it was time to clean their coat from the winter dirt that had built up. Davinia hates winter bathes and Indiana hates the blow dryer so I opted for a non bath substitute. Bayer has two options a Coat Cleaning Foam and Cleansing Wipes. I used a few wipes on each of them to clean their whole body which also helped get rid of more dead fur. I keep wipes around to help remove orange mud so I opted to use what I had though I am interested in the Cleansing Foam because I think it does a more thorough job. Then it was off to grandma and grandpa’s house.
The next day I opened the box of Spot On Moisturizer and applied a tube to Davinia and one to Indiana. Even though the dosage is specifically made for them you are supposed to apply it in several places. After parting their coat so that I could apply the moisturizer directly to their skin I opted to moisturize between the shoulder blades, moisturize the middle of their back, and above their tail to try and help spread the solution evenly around their bodies. The moisturizer has a very distinct rosemary scent at least o me it is distinct but for most people it will just smell fresh.
I let them do their thing and go back to napping or sleeping in the sun. It is now 3 days later and I brushed them again. Their coat especially Davinia’s is looking less dull and she has less flakes so that is a great start. The product is meant to be used every two weeks to keep their skin looking and feeling great plus it has the added benefit of helping them smell better for cuddle time!
Bayer ExpertCare to the Rescue. When the weather outside is frightful Spot on moisturizer for your dog feels so delightful!
That sounds interesting. Matt’s skin is so dry right now since the weather won’t decide what it wants to do down here.

I clicked over from Facebook hoping this would be something for me…lol! Living in Denmark with radiator heat means my skin takes a beating and right now I cannot get enough moisture! It never occurred to me that our pets experience the same thing. I wonder if my cat is itchy.

I have two mini schnauzers and they always get more “itchy” in the winter. I had no idea that this was available to help them. I give them 1 tsp of coconut oil a day to help but this is great information and I will be sure to check it out! Thanks!
I have never heard of this product before but have have good experiences with Bayer. My dog does have dry skin now and again. I will have to try this the next time her skin gets dry.

I think it is great that Bayer is coming out with products to help pups during the winter months. I bet they felt so much better after you brushed them and applied the good stuff. I will share this with my doggie friends.

We don’t have a pet but when we finally do get one, I will keep this product in mind to moisturize my pet.
I know how moisturizing is important for us humans, and well… I didn’t know dogs need it too! I had a dog once and if I own one again, I’ll surely take note of this 😀

That is one cute dog! It’s great to know that you have a good product for helping to take care of your little furry friend. I don’t have a dog, but I’ll file this in my memore just in case!
That pup is absolutely adorable. Thanks for all the tips! I will be keeping these in my mind if we get a puppy anytime in the future!
OK first you’re an awesome dog mama! Taking such care of your pets is the best thing you can do becuase they can’t do it for themselves. Next, I wonder if they make this for cats? I live in So Cal so the weather never really calls for dry skin but I’m sure it couldn’t hurt to give it a try.
