All Natural Odor Fighters
If you have a dog, you may be dealing with the battle with odor. For as much as we love them, we know that from time to time they can leave the carpets and other upholstered areas rather unsavory. Instead of dealing with the stench whether that of dirty dog or wet dog, take a look at these all natural odor fighters! These odor fighters are safe to use around dogs since they don’t contain harmful chemicals which means they will breathe easy and so will you knowing you are cleaning without harming your best friend.
1. Baking soda carpet sprinkle.
When the dog soils or gets sick on the carpet, wash the area with a gentle dish soap and hot water. Pat dry. Then, sprinkle the area generously with baking soda. Allow it to sit for several minutes and soak up the odor. Once dry, vacuum it away. It will take the odor with it! This is perfect for high traffic areas or where your pet sleeps and its natural oils get into the carpet. The baking soda will soak up the oils which can hold odor.
2. Dog bedding wash.
Give your dog’s bed a good scrub with a mixture of washing soda, baking soda, and water. Mix a spray bottle full of warm water with a tablespoon each of washing soda and baking soda. Spray liberally or add the mixture directly to the washing machine. Rinse with warm water and pat dry. If possible completely air dry. if left in the sun the fresh air will help release any lingering odor.
3. Don’t forget the oils!
You can add essential oils to leashes and collars to not only help your dog feel relaxed but fight odor. Just add a few drops directly to the item and it will do the rest. You can even add a few drops to bandanas, pet blankets, and pet pillows. Varieties such as peppermint, lavender, and geranium can actually help repel pests too! If your dog has sensitive skin your will want to dilute the essential oils in coconut or olive oil before applying to their collar or bedding. If you are using on bedding you can mix with water instead and use a mister to cover the entire bed.

I love the essential oils tip. Leela loves lavender — I have no idea why I never thought to add a few drops to her bedding!
