Puppy Love School Supply Organizer
Are you ready for back to school? It is just around the corner and that means piles of books, and boxes of crayons, markers and colored pencils strewn about in the evening after homework is done. Avoid the mess by making this school supply organizer with your child in anticipation of the new school year. This Puppy love School Supply organizer is just the thing to keep everything corralled, it even includes a chalk board for play time or solving math problems or keeping track of long term assignments and a clip for hanging finished work for mom or dad to check over before filing into the backpack. Made mostly from items rescued from the recycle bin and a cookie sheet picked up from the Dollar Tree this organizer is a thrifty project too.
Supplies Needed for your School Supply Organizer:
cookie sheet
4 empty clean aluminum cans
scrapbook paper
8 round craft magnets
Washi Tape
2 wooden clothes pins
chalkboard paint
string/ribbon
hot glue gun/sticks
Directions to create your own School Supply Organizer:
Carefully cover inside and top rim of cookie sheet with painters tape.
Rough up the flat surface of pan a bit with a fine sandpaper- this will help chalkboard paint stay on your metal surface better, remove dust with damp cloth.
Spray with a light tack coat, allow to dry 5 minutes and repeat with 2-3 coats until you have a nice even and completely solid coverage, allow to dry well (overnight is best)
Remove painters tape and press washi tape around the inside rim to add a decorative touch.
Be sure and remove rough edges from your cans by cutting with snips and smoothing with a file.
Measure your can and cut scrapbook paper to fit. I used standard vegetable cans and cut my paper to 4 ¼:x 10”.
Wrap paper around can and tape the seam down the back or if you don’t want the tape to show you can run a line of hot glue inside the overlapping paper-repeat with all 4 cans.
Along the back seam of your can hot glue 2 magnets, one an inch from the top and the other an inch from the bottom- use a good quality magnet, and use at least 2 for each can so that it is strong enough to hold up your can when filled.
Add touches of washi tape to your wooden clothespins to make them coordinate with the rest of your school supply organizer. Hot glue one clothespin to each side of the bottom portion of board, be generous with hot glue so it holds well.
Hot glue a ribbon to the back of your board for hanging and you are ready to go!
Cans can be pulled off one at a time for use, or they can all be removed and board is ready for chalk!
Add a small magnet to a pencil sharpener and add to your board for convenience.

That looks brilliant, I wonder how I can adapt this for use in my house. NO kids so don’t need the school supplies!

I am one of those people who loves organization but is never truly organized (there are other people like that, right?) This board is so cute though, I think it would make staying organized fun!
Love this idea for my classroom! I could set this up and have little marker/coloring pencil cups available for students to take to their desks.
