Fun 5K Races to Run With Your Dog

Running has become America’s new favorite pastime. It seems that everyone is training to run their first 5k. Many times during training runs you have your trusty sidekick with you who never seems to get tired! Fido loves to run and pushes you on when you think you can’t possibly take another step. One of the new trends in the running scene is to have dog-friendly races so your pooch can run too. Here are a list of some of the best 5k races for you and your dog.







The “Dog Gone Run” is a dog-friendly 5K in Redmond’s Dry Canyon. The proceeds from this run benefit BrightSide Animal Center in Redmond. If you want to run with your dog in an official race in Central Oregon this is the only one designed for people and their dogs.

Copper’s Gone to the Dogs

Not too far from Denver, Colorado is a beautiful mountain resort towns. Nestled in the Colorado Rockies, Copper Ridge is very close to Vail and Breckenridge and just two hours away from Denver. You can either run a 5k or 10k and have your pooch every step of the way. This race would be great not only for the locals of Colorado but anyone who wants to travel to a race to run with their best friend. It is the inaugural run, but I would bet it will be a yearly event.

2014 Six-Legged Race

This is a great race to run with your four-legged friend if you live in the Midwest near Madison, Wisconsin. This fun run is paired up with all the awesomeness of Dogtoberfest. Your pooch will love you as to them Heaven just might be running with you and then having a festival that celebrates them. Nothing better than getting a great run in and enjoying some yummy treats afterwards.

Dog Day 5k

There is a 1.5 mile fun run or a timed 5k trail run through the beautiful Delaware Valley College Campus. This is a cross-country course and this race can accommodate the more serious runner and dog. You can also run teams on this course to get the whole family involved. There is a veterinarian on the course during the race as well to make sure your fur-baby is ok while running. The Dog Day 5k is perfect to go to enjoy the changing of the leaves in New England.
