Valentine Dog Safety Tips and Some Fun Gifts!
Valentine’s Day is quickly approaching, and there may be all sorts of festivities taking place around your home. During all of the fun and festivities, it can be easy to forget that some of these things can pose dangers to your dog. This year, celebrate in safety so both you and your dog can enjoy the fun. 1. Check your chocolate.
As you know, chocolate can poison dogs when consumed in large amounts. Be mindful of chocolate treats, brownies, and other sweet treats that may be left out. Be sure such items are left way up high and out of sight, so your dog does not have the chance to explore and then eat them. Or, avoid chocolate all together and opt for non chocolate treats instead. 2. Keep an eye on candles.
During the season of sweethearts, you may find yourself burning more candles or enjoying a candle lit dinner. Be sure to keep candles up high where large tails can’t swing and knock them over. You also don’t want your dog to become curious and get too close, burning his face. Keep candles up high or opt for battery operated options instead.
3. Think about your décor.
Garlands and wreaths are fun, but they are also shiny and inviting to your dog. Choose décor that doesn’t contain small parts, breakable pieces, or other elements that could pose a hazard to your dog. Opt for simple décor, and place any décor you do buy out of reach.
4. Be mindful of plush animals.
Plush animals tend to be all over during the Valentine’s Day season. Remember, these will look like toys to your dog. Keep such gifts up and out of sight where your dog won’t be tempted to tear it to shreds! Unlike dog toys many plush animals for Valentines Day are filled iwth little pellets that could be toxic to your pet or get stuck in their throat or stomach.
5. Take plant and flower precautions.
Not all flowers and plants are good for dogs, in fact, some can be poisonous if ingested. Be mindful of the flowers and plants that may be brought into your home during the season so you can remove or put up any plants or flowers that prove to be poisonous.
