Royal Canin 14
As a pet parent (Mommy to 2 rescued cats), I am always looking for ways to improve my cats’ quality of life by providing them with good tasting, healthy and nutritionally proven food. We consider our furry cats every part of our family as our 2-legged members and want them to live long, strong and healthy lives. I had the opportunity to attend a Royal Canin and PetMD event at Corrado’s in Clifton, NJ on Saturday, November 9th where I got to learn about the healthy benefits of feeding my cats (and friends that have dogs) Royal Canin pet food.

Royal Canin

Royal Canin is different from the big brand dog and cat foods that you find in the big supermarkets and stores around the US. Their approach to pet nutrition is unique. They have conducted extensive research and have developed specific formulas for cats and dogs. These formulas are specifically designed to provide nutrition by breed (purebred or mixed breed); puppy or adult; special dietary needs; and also even by their size (mini, small, medium, large and extra-large). There is also a special line available through your veterinarian. Royal Canin uses science to integrate the over 50 nutrients needed for proper nutrition into their great tasting cat and dog foods. Royal Canin is produced right here in the US with ingredients from North America. The #1 ingredient is chicken.

Royal Canin

Royal Canin uses four goals for healthy nutrition in their food and every ingredient fills a specific need in your cat and/or dog’s diet.

The four goals are:
1) Body Development and Maintenance
2) Energy Provision
3) Prevention
4) Special Care

This cat mommy also learned a lot about dog food and the science behind it. Do you know what is in a kibble? It is more than I knew! Royal Canin is at the forefront of kibble research and development and runs extensive trials at the ROYAL CANIN® Campus. Royal Canin uses state-of-the-art equipment like the “Texturometer” which measures kibble hardness and the amount of force required to break it. That tool helps them know that their product will provide quality and performance.

Royal Canin

I asked the Royal Canin rep, Vet Tech and the PetMD rep for some tips for feeding our canine and feline friends. The best advice is to feed your pet the proper type of food and provide the best nutrition you can as well as visit your vet for regular check-ups and vaccines. Puppies and kittens should only be fed puppy and kitten food up to 6 months of age (about when they would be neutered and spayed). After 6 months, they can transition to their proper adult formula.

Royal Canin

I put my Royal Canin cat food sample to a taste test when I got home. My 2 cats are extremely picky (like most cats) so I wasn’t sure if they would even try it let alone eat a full serving. Well, they both LOVED it.

  1. My doxies go to the vet at least once a year but their is always an issue. Charlie gets himself into trouble on a regular basis. He has been stung by yellow jackets and had a reaction, broke a piece of bone between his teeth, had loose back teeth that had to be removed not related to the bone incident, had a reaction to vaccinations and looked like a walrus. He also has broke a leg jumping off the table when I was bringing in bags and had surgery. (He had to see what I brought home from the store). He has also had back surgery.

  2. My dogs go to the vet twice a year for their bi-annual check ups and they also go any time I sense something is off. I’m not afraid to take them in even if what they’re showing symptoms for seems silly.

  3. My dogs go about once a year.

  4. Darlene Owen says

Yes my dogs go to the vet on a regular basis my vet sends a card reminding us when to go, usually once a year.

  5. Heather Bridson says

My dogs do not goto the vet often, just for needed shots and if they are injured.

  6. Kim Henrichs says

My cats go for their scheduled shots, and the fosters go for testing and shots and to be spayed and neutered.

  7. YVONNE WOODSTOCK says

Our cat and our granddoggies and our cockatiel bird too, all go to the vet yearly for their yearly physical etc and only go in between if something is wrong (illness or injury ) and for my bird to get his nails trimmed. Besides their vets, we have a 24/7 vet hospital for emergencies day or night too.

  8. joanne major says

Both my dog and cat go to the vet at least once a year for their shot. More if they have something wrong with them

  9. steve weber says

I take my dog in 2-3 times a year.

  10. My dog and cats go around once a year.

  11. We are happy with our current food, but one of our good friends in Germany is vet and a food rep for Royal Canin. We find it interesting that certain types of food are not offered in the US. There was a cat one we wanted to try but it wasn’t available here.

  12. We go when they need to be checked out – once a year?

  13. Yes, my dog goes regularly to the vet. He has his annual checkup, and goes in any time I have even a minor concern. I’d rather pay for an office visit and be sure he’s ok than miss something important.

  14. My cats are all indoor only so we typically only go in when they are sick or injured, which thankfully is not too often.

  15. I take my pet to the vet on a regular basis for checkups.

  17. Danielle Jones says

My dog goes twice a year. My cat is getting older and has kidney problems so he goes more often. My dog gets nervous but the cat acts like he owns the place.

  18. Yes, they all go annually.

  19. I can’t afford to take all 12 of my cats to the vet regularly, but I try to get the older ones in and of course any of them that show any signs of a problem. Since mine are all formerly feral cats, some are harder to catch to take in than others. I rely on quality food like this to help them stay healthy.

  20. We have 2 dogs, 2 cats, and 8 chickens, so we only take them to the vet when something is really wrong.

  34. Jennifer P - Vicki Vix on Rafflecopter says

I have to say my dog hasn’t been to the vet in a few years. Knock on wood…. she’s been very healthy …. she’s on an ultra premium and cooked meal diet, walks regularly and is now 11.5 and hasn’t had any problems. I have heard horror stories about vaccines so I’m a bit wary though she did have shots for the first several years. We avoid off leash dog areas as I tend to think they are hot beds of germs, and sometimes lazy/ badly behaved owners. Instead she runs around the near by baseball field. Thanks for the giveaway.

  35. Just took my pup to the vet the other day. She’s still getting her puppy shots. She’s 4 months old.

  36. Theresa Spaid says

I try to get them there once a year to get booster rabies shots

  37. My dogs and cat go to the vet every 2 – 3 months (my cat is 13 yrs old and has to have her nails clipped and the dogs get there nails anal glands done). They also have their yearly check ups with shots and teeth cleanings every 6 months to a year. I’m sure I’m missing something LOL it seems we are always at the vet 🙂

  38. I have two kitties and they’ve only been to the vet for neutering. Otherwise we keep them healthy and happy with Royal Canin!

  39. We do not go regularly, only when needed

  40. Darlene Carbajal says

My dog goes for his shots only once a year. 🙂

  41. Cheryl Chervitz says

We take our dogs at least once a year for their vaccinations.

  42. candy kratzer wenzel says

We have 7 cats ranging in ages from 1 to 15. They are all fixed and declawed and totally indoors. We would love to take them to the vet every year but sometimes the $ is just not there. We were just at the vet with one of my females because she has a uti.

  43. My dogs go to the vet whenever they are due shots, or need meds. And to get groomed a couple times a year. Thanks for this giveaway. I would need the Chihuahua Adult.

My pets visit the vet at least once a year for a checkup & shots.

  45. Our family pal is taken to a wonderful vet when needed and for immunizations We work with the rescue and our vet volunteers her time so when a question arises we usually can ask without much difficulty.

  46. Once a year for the kitties and the puppy goes more since she tends to get in MORE trouble needing vet care…

  47. We go for our annual visit.

  48. Its like you read my mind! You seem to know a lot about this, like you wrote the book in it or something.
I think that you can do with a few pics to drive the message
home a little bit, but instead of that, this is great blog.
An excellent read. I will definitely be back.
