Natural Pet Food which one is the best for my dog and the least expensive on my monthly budget?
That is a two sided question. The first question is what food is best for my dog. The only one that can figure that out is you and your pet. You are with them on a daily basis and can watch to see how they react to a protein source or how they get itchy when eating one food but not another. Here at Two Little Cavaliers we know that not every food is for every dog and your dog is special and unique. So we say take your time and figure it out. If your dog loves beef and is less then excited over chicken, find a food with a beef base. If your dog has a sensitive stomach you might want to try a fish based food for the extra omegas that will help ease stomach issues and make their coat more shiny (that is our experience anyway). Not enough of something is just as bad as too much of something for your dog that is why it is important to find a brand you can trust has done their homework in creating the food you feed your dogs. It means the brand works with Nutritionists and Veterinarians long before the food hits the shelves so that you don’t have to have those degrees in order to find a good food for your dog.
What is least expensive to you? Figure out your budget and then take a look online or walk down the aisles at your local Pet Supply store. Does anything pop out at you in or around your price range? Also consider how fast your dog will go through the food to determine what it really costs. If a $40 bag lasts you 2 months then it is only $20 per month. If however your dog will go through 2 $40 bags a food a month then it is really $80 from your budget that month. You get the idea. Offering your pet complete and nutritious meals every day eases your mind and satisfies your pet. So that should be a huge factor in your decision making. You want to know that the food you are feeding your dog will allow it to thrive and not just survive.
How many times a day will you feed your dog?
Adults dogs should eat at least twice a day once in the morning and once at night with a treat or two throughout the day. You can split up a larger meal into two smaller meals just make sure to watch your dog’s weight any time you change their food or feeding schedule and try to balance it all out. Just like with our metabolism your dog is at its peak when it eats more then just a giant meal at the end of the day. Which means don’t forget to include treats in your budget. Treats should be of equally high quality as food if not more so. While Kibble is important treats allow you to bond with your dog. Whether you give treats just because you love your dog and want to show you care on your way out the door for work in the morning. Or you use treats as a part of your dogs daily training routine – even a 10 year old dog benefits from daily reminders of coming when called or doing tricks in order to keep their mind occupied.
