Bernadette Peters and Harvey Fierstein Present Broadway Barks / Pet Bloggers Blog Hop

Broadway Barks

Harvey Fierstein (filling in for Mary Taylor Moore) and Bernadette Peters hosted the 15th annual BROADWAY BARKS! last weekend. A star-studded dog and cat adoption event benefiting New York City animal shelters and adoption agencies. Produced by Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, sponsored by the ASPCA® (The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals®) and additional sponsorship by the New York Times, BARKS will take place on Saturday, July 13 in Shubert Alley, the heart of the Broadway Theater District.

What started off 15 years ago with 6 shelters has become 27 who brought a total of 200 dogs and cats out to the event this year for adoption. The afternoon raises funds and awareness for the Mayor’s Alliance for NYC’s Animals, a coalition of 150 nonprofit shelters and rescue groups working to end the killing of healthy and treatable cats and dogs at city shelters. In addition to finding forever homes for pets, the event promotes the importance of spaying and neutering.

The event plays off of the actors celebrity status as they walk their adoptable dogs down the runway for the adoptable Pet Parade hoping that one of their fans will find it in their hearts to adopt the furry babies.

  1. What a wonderful event! I love when celebrities use their status to help others, especially our furry friends. 🙂

  2. LOVE Bernadette Peters, a huge talent and a huge heart for animals. I would love to attend a concert or show and see her on stage someday.

  3. They must’ve really promoted this. I live in NJ and didn’t hear about it until now. It is a good idea but they should do it when it’s cooler. It must’ve been 100F in Shubert’s Alley on the 13th.

  4. Hi Y’all!

What a wonderful event for the dogs….and I bet they (the dogs) didn’t even have to rehearse!

Thanks for another great Saturday Blog Hop!

  5. What a great idea! I’ve never even heard of this event until now. It’s definitely good when celebrities use their influence to do good things for animals – wish they’d do it more often.
It’s also great that they’re doing it in New York – there are overflowing shelters everywhere, but from what I understand, New York City is especially overwhelmed.
