National Service Dogs is dedicated to enriching the quality of life and enhancing the independence of individuals living with special needs by providing them with specially trained Golden Retrievers and Labrador Retrievers. In 1996, National Service Dogs pioneered the program of breeding, training and placing Certified Service Dogs with children with autism. Over the last 16 years, NSD has graduated over 250 Certified Service Dog Teams, helped many service dog organizations around the world start their own autism programs, and has started two new programs: the Skilled Companion Dog Program and the Companion Dog Program.
In 1996, Maureen Butler-Morin, the mother of a three year Brodie, was desperately searching for a service dog that could help her son. That same year, Brodie Morin was matched with a black lab named Shade. The incredible success of this founding team brought popular attention from the media and the Geneva Centre for Autism. Today, Brodie is heirt Official Ambassador. With his third service dog, NSD Quest, by his side, he has graduated high school and is now helping out around NSD, speaking on their behalf, and assisting with Team Training for new clients.

What a great video and concept. I remember reading a story years ago about an autistic child who adopted a dog and it changed his life. I’m not sure if it was Shade or another story but I think its important for us to realize that assist dogs aren’t just for physical disabilities, but rather all forms.
