We were sent a few cans of Merrick Grain Free Love Potion #9 to try out. I love that these cans have easy pop open lids this way you don’t need a separate can opener for the dog food you just pop and pull which is a feature that would make me more likely to pick up a can or two for a special occasion. You know what I mean I am sure you have see the Merrick Christmas Dinner or Thanksgiving Dinner and always thought about buying one as a special treat. In fact I remember seeing the cans for the first time when Indiana was taking puppy socialization classes at a pet store and they were selling the Thanksgiving dinner one which I thought was so neat. With Valentine’s Day just days away I knew this would be a great product to try out and tell our readers about. It is a grain free food with a list of ingredients you might use to make your own dinner.
I was surprised when I popped open the can and the pieces weren’t in chunks I guess I always thought they would be from the pictures on the front of the can of a table or plate full of food. Though this way they were able to put so much food into the can that the can still had more food in it even after our picture of the overflowing bowl. More food = happier dogs. The girls really liked the Love Potion #9 so they are pretty happy there was enough in the can for topping on their normal food for about 5 or 6 nights. They shared this can with Whisper (the Husky) and Dora the Explorer (cat) because everyone gets a little of everything when grandpa is in charge of food. Grandpa thinks that dogs should have some canned food on top of all of their meals. They all loved it. Whisper did her taste test and wanted to know where the rest of the can was. She didn’t get the can but she got to lick the spoon (we left the can with her for dinner the next night).
Indiana will sometimes get an upset stomach from foods with Beef and since Beef and Beef Broth are the fist two ingredients I didn’t want to give them too much at once. Everyone had a happy tummy after eating so I decided to see how I could make the food into a special treat other then just putting it on top of their food or scoop it into their bowl. As a late night treat I put a scoop of the food on top of a tomato with a piece of cut up spinach (both ingredients in the food) and patted it down and then cut it into pieces. Davinia and Indiana thought it was the best treat ever and even Whisper who is not generally a fan of raw vegetables and fruit wanted more. There were 3 sad faces looking up at me after all the pieces of this treat were eaten.
- Merrick 5-Star Spring Seasonals Love Potion Number 9 Canned Dog Food
- tomato
- raw spinach
- Cut thin slices of tomato.
- Cut up raw spinach 1 piece per slice of tomato.
- Put tomato down on plate, bowl, or tray and top with scoop of Love Potion #9 sprinkle cut up spinach over the top.
- Cut into bite sized pieces and either give to your dog in the bowl or give pieces by hand.
- Depending on how big your dog is and how large your tomato is give your dog an appropriate sized piece and whether this is a special treat or dinner. (The sliced tomato in the picture was shared 3 ways as a late night treat).

I am so happy I saw this in your newsletter when checking my email my dogs love Merrick food, especially the seasonals, they love all of the flavors,especially Easter Brunch, they haven’t gotten to try the winter varieties because petco didnt have them so they definitely want to try those and they want some beef flossies, texas taffy, and some sausages

I let them sleep on the bed with me! All three of them! Lucky they only weigh 20 lbs combined.
