Dog That Welcomes Home Returning Military Passes Away

Dover the St. Bernard was the mascot for Arroyo Grande-based “Welcome Home Military Heroes,”. Dover the dog, appeared at dozens of events to greet returning military members and attended events in support of the troops and their families. Even after a recent surgery to correct internal problems Dover’s health was worsening and a second surgery which wasn’t necessarily going to help his owners and veterinarian decided tha the most fair thing to do would be to put Dover to sleep.



The Dover was best known for his kisses and giving a paw of support to about 200 military personnel returning from the war on terror to show them that even if their families were unable to be there when they landed that someone was there to welcome them home and offer them a paw of thanks.
