Dogs with Jobs – Dog Sniffs Out Termites

Termite Sniffing Dog

Marlowe a jack russell-beagle mix has been trained at the FSI Academy for dogs in order to sniff out termite problems in peoples homes. Marlowe the dog only alerts to live current infestations. When Marlowe smells termites, he is trained to sit and point his nose at the troubled spot.

“Many pest professionals in the mid-Atlantic region are reporting double-digit increases in number of inspections and termite treatments being done this year,” said Missy Henriksen, the Vice President of Public Affairs for the National Pest Management Association.

To reduce your chance of getting termites—and needing a termite dog like Marlowe to come in and sniff out your infestation, experts say don’t put mulch any closer than 18- inches from your home’s foundation, and make sure your gutters and downspouts are working properly.
