City Officials Up in Arms Over Community Dog

Bluedog EB-Mascot on Facebook

Blue the dog doesn’t have a home. Its not that he hasn’t been offered homes throughout his life or that no one wants him he just does not like living in a home with a single family he prefers to belong to the entire community. Every time he has been given a home he eventually makes his way back to his spot. The blue-eyed Australian cattle dog has $1,800 in savings, a Facebook page and an air-conditioned dog house all donated by and kept up by the community that loves him. He even had four different families bring him plates full of Thanksgiving Dinner. He also has a lawyer, who is working to get him an exemption from local leash laws so he can continue his lifestyle in southern New Mexico’s lakeside community of Elephant Butte, where he was abandoned as a puppy 10 years ago.

What dog wouldn’t want Blue’s life he has been built his very own heated and air conditioned dog house. He goes to the vet when necessary gets the food and medication he needs and gets to play with all of the children in the community. The residents who have come to know and love Blue over the years just wants to find a way for Blue to remain the way he always has. Apparently when he was dumped there 10 years ago the area was not even a city yet and so the community is asking for the city to grandfather him in as a representative of the community. He is no longer the young puppy who was abandoned in the community he is an elderly dog that just wants to live out his Golden Years with the community he loves and in the way he has chosen for himself.

  1. I hope the very group of people that formed the community and then the laws see fit to grant Blue an exemption. Cool dog.

I really hope he wins. I have a cat like that he is a stray that is fully vetted and while I am his main care giver I do know for a fact that different people in the complex are feeding him and letting him into their apartments. I have spoken to the manager about him and she is fine since I can prove he has had his shots and is fixed. I have even explained to the owner that it is more cost effective to keep well behaved altered cats around that to keep putting them down because all that happens when you take cats out of an area new cats or raccoon move in to the now vacant area. We also are located between 2 vacant fields so there are plenty of mice and other small animals for the cats to eat.
