I have been approached by multiple manufacturers of QR Code ID tags for pets asking me to promote their product. My issue always was what if someone found the missing dog and they didn’t have a smart phone or where not computer savvy like my dad. Even though he would really want to help get the lost pet to their home he would have no idea what to do with a tag that just has a QR code on it and no other information. I felt like the idea was good but not quite good enough. Then FurCode approached me and I took a look at their website which made me really happy because one side is the QR Code and the other is the direct URL for your dog’s information!
FurCodes are a smart modern upgrade to the dog tag of previous generations. Each tag links to an online Pet Profile allowing pet owners to keep their pet’s contact, vet and care information current. Enter the tag ID in a web browser and it instantly renders your Pet’s profile page or you can scan a FurCode with a Smartphone’s QR code reader.
After purchasing a tag, you will receive an email with your log-in details to complete your online profile. You provide the information you will like to potentially share with someone who has found your lost pet. In a few short days after purchase, you’ll receive your FurCode tag in the mail. Just attached the tag to your pet’s collar and that’s it.
FurCodes are Laser-Etched Aluminum, making them lightweight, waterproof and nearly indestructible. Anyone equipped with a Smartphone or Internet access can quickly check your pet’s tag and find out where they belong, without visiting a shelter.

These are a really good idea. To pet owners, a microchip and a good ID tag can exponentially increase the chances of finding a lost pet. Check your local shelter or spay/neuter clinic for inexpensive microchips. They run about $10 here, one time for life.
