6th Grader Honors Memory of Dog By Trying To Create Antifreeze Law

antifreeze

Aaron a 6th grader is honoring the memory of his dog by asking the Kansas Legislature to regulate the sale of antifreeze making sure that the sweet taste is covered by something bitter instead to make it less palatable to dogs and children. Aaron’s dog, Nikko, died in January after getting running away from home and at some point drinking anti-freeze. About 10,000 animals and 1,400 children who die each year from anti-freeze poisoning which smells and tastes sweet. There already are several products on the market that are safer around children and dogs so it is possible for every antifreeze manufacturer to make their product safer. This is not a new issue and has been a major cause of accidental dog death for many years. What I didn’t know is that Anti-freeze is also appealing to curious little children and just as toxic and potentially fatal.

Niko’s law shouldn’t just be a state law it should be a law across the US that antifreeze include an ingredient to make it bitter and no longer smell and taste sweet to children or dogs.
