New Years Resolutions: Brushing Your Dogs Teeth

Its a new year which means a clean slate. Many of you probably made a list of New Year’s Resolutions maybe they are the same as last year or maybe they are completely new. Did you remember to include your pet’s health on your list? Since they can’t make these decisions for themselves we need to help keep them in good health so they can be with us for years to come.

Resolution number one is Oral Hygiene for your pet. That means brushing your dog or cats teeth providing appropriate chew bones and toys and making sure they drink plenty of water. Other pets like mice or rabbits or ferrets have their own needs when it comes to oral health and need constant care so they don’t develop major issues.

For all of the dog moms and dads out there here is a video to show you how to go about brushing your dog’s teeth:

Are you ready to take on the challenge of daily brushing for your pet?

Some things to remember:

  • Start slowly even a gauze soaked in water and scrubbed against your dogs teeth is better then nothing.
  • Do not use a human tooth paste on your pet.
  • Do not use a product with fluoride
  • Use a brush appropriate for your dog

  1. was just talking about this topic with my brother-in-law last night. I know this is super important and I do do it (sometimes), this needs to become a routine part of my life….thanks for the reminder!

Hope you had a great New Year!

  2. Brushing a doggie’s teeth is so important… but what if a dog, like me, HATES getting their teeth brushed? Like me, I always run away when mama tries to brush my toofers… hehe.

    Happy New Year though!

    • Sometimes I use the electric spin brush and just push it in for a few seconds I figure anything is better then nothing. Maybe your mommy or daddy would let you have raw bones they really help to keep dog teeth clean and healthy!

  3. Very important resolution! Dental health has impact on the health of the entire body. Keeping healthy teeth is one of the ways of having a healthy dog.
