A New Jersey Transit train heading to New York’s Penn Station made its regular station stop in Short Hills, New Jersey slightly after 8:30 p.m. Sunday night, Nov. 20 picked up an unexpected passenger a young dog who was sitting on the tracks. While stopped waiting for passenger to get on and off the train the conductor noticed a dog sitting on the overpass of the Eastbound tracks. The conductor got out of the train and approached the dog who seemed friendly enough and picked it up off the tracks and with no collar or other identification put the dog on the train so she wouldn’t get hit.  Coco then sat on the train until it arrived in Penn Station at 9:31 p.m. that night. The train’s conductor Steve Pollock alerted New Jersey Transit Police to the dog on the train.

While the train was still in Penn Station the dog’s owner realized she had gone missing and called local police. Local police told her what happened and that she would have to call NJ Transit Police. The Transit Police said that Coco the dog could be brought back to the station and would arrive at 10:56pm. Coco’s owners were waiting for her when the train arrived back at the Short Hills station and got to meet her rescuer train conductor Steve Pollock and her new train friend the ticker collector who watched her during her adventure Frank Fewkes.
