Puppy Rescued from On Top of Moving Train

A team of four firefighters was called Sunday evening after a family spotted a puppy while they were stopped at a red light so the train could pass by. Initially they thought it was trash on the top of the train, but then it started moving and realized it was a small dog. The family called 911 and followed the train for about 6 miles until authorities could contact the company and have the train stopped.

A Norfolk Southern spokeswoman said they stopped the train, which was going about 50 mph while traveling from Pennsylvania to Atlanta. The family then helped firefighters find the car and firefighter Derek Sargeant went up a 24-foot extension ladder to get on top of the double-stacked containers in order to bring the small dog to safety.

The family named the dog Boxcar Hunter, or Boxy for short and have scheduled a vet appointment but so far the puppy seems happy and healthy though a little unsure in it’s new environment.

It is believed that someone had to have put the puppy on top of the train be cause it would have been impossible for the puppy to have climbed to the top of the double stacked containers. It was difficult enough for firefighters to get up to the puppy to rescue it. They cannot figure out how the puppy got up there but are glad they could help get it down to safety and a new life.

  1. So basically what they are saying without really saying it is that someone purposely put that puppy up on top of the box car! I’d like to put that someone on the top of an airplane just before takeoff. No, I wouldn’t really let the plane take off but I bet that someone wouldn’t think it so funny anymore.

I’m glad this story had a happy ending.
