Ian Thomas was blown off his feet and knocked unconscious by the bolt. Mr Thomas came round to find whimpering Monty – who had also been struck – licking his face, nuzzling him and attempting to drag him back to his feet. He briefly managed to stagger to his feet but quickly collapsed again. So he wrapped his arms around devoted Monty who pulled the stunned mayor of Redruth, Cornwall 100 yards home where his horrified wife Sharen rushed him to hospital.
Mr Thomas had taken Monty for his usual early morning walk during this week’s storms. Normally Mr Thomas returns after just a few minutes. But when he stumbled through the door some time after he had set out, his wife took him to hospital fearing he had suffered a stroke or heart attack. His wife had no idea what had happened he couldn’t remember and he was in pain and scared.
I always love hearing stories of dogs as heroes, but then I also remember that all dogs are heroic.
