Service Dog Trainer Stole Puppy Saying it Went Missing

The picture on the left is the only picture of the missing dog that 4 Paws for Ability has. The one on the right is a picture of her sister at the age she would be now.

Authorities said a Pennsylvania woman who was a puppy trainer for 4 Paws for Ability the organization that gives dogs to Autism Spectrum children so they can live a more independent life reported the young service dog missing. Only authorities now know the dog never went missing and the woman kept the dog for herself.

The woman brought the dog to the vet for what seemed to have been a routine visit to the doctor. During the visit the dog’s microchip was scanned. The result was that the dog had been reported reported stolen a year ago by 4 Paws For Ability. The veterinarian left the room in order to call the organization to alert them that the dog that they had been reported missing was on his exam table.

The woman ran out of the practice and took the dog with her. The authorities were notified now that the dog was no longer missing and had in fact been stolen by the same person charged with the task of caring for the dog. The woman was arrested on Friday and will be charged. The dog has still not been found by authorities. If you have seen the dog or know anything about it please contact the Ben Avon, PA Police Department. The dog is worth at least 20,000 because it was fully trained and waiting to be placed with a family to help their child. Authorities are taking this case very seriously.

  1. I really don’t know how people can live with themselves when they do things like that – it’s bad enough when you are a professional dog trainer but then to be training dogs to be of service for someone with a disability – that makes it that much worse to me.

  2. oh my, this is horrible. hopefully she didn’t do anything bad to the dog, just gave it to someone she knows that’ll take care of the dog. hopefully they find the dog soon.
