Drunk Woman Broke Into Dog Boarding Facility

Happy, a 3-year-old black-and-white Havanese, was one of nine dogs set loose by Pamela Dowd. Police said Dowd broke a combination lock on the play yard at Stoughton Groomers and Boarding Facility in Massachusetts on Wednesday night and took one of the dogs with the lock broken and the gate open 8 other dogs ran out and into busy traffic. One dog named Snoopy was hit by a car and had to be euthanized later that night said Scott Holyoke, owner of Stoughton Groomers. Five of the dogs that were loose and running in the street belonged to Holyoke including tiny little Shih Tzu. Seven of the dogs were recovered, but Happy was still missing late Thursday.

On Wednesday night, while Holyoke was away, a worker let the dogs outside to run in the play area, which is surrounded by a 6-foot-high stockade fence and secured with a combination lock, Holyoke said.

Dowd who broke into the facility stole one dog and allowed the other to get loose was arraigned Thursday in Stoughton District Court on charges of breaking and entering, disorderly conduct, receiving stolen property, two counts of larceny of property over $250 and two counts of animal cruelty. Police said Dowd was drunk when she broke the lock and entered the dogs’ play area. She took a dog, police said, and the open gate allowed the others to escape and run free.
