Clicker Training for Chickens

I am going to be the first to admit I admit I don’t know why anyone would want to clicker train a chicken other then to show they can be. The chicken does “get it” pretty quickly if this was the first session of training. Maybe its a good way to get them to move around in case they get injured and the vet comes to check them out or a way to entice them off their eggs. Whatever the reason its kind of cute that they put the training to the music of the chicken dance.

  1. Very cute! Actually clicker training chicken is a great way to learn clickertraining skills and quite a few dog trainers have gone to “Chicken Camp” to hone their skills. Here’s one trainer’s diary- http://www.clickersolutions.com/articles/2001/diary.htm and here’s a link to the trainer that is doing the camps now in the US- http://www.legacycanine.com/workshops/chicken-camps.html

I always wanted to go, but for now I have my own menagerie to practice with. After doing some clicker work with my dogs, cats, rabbit, ferret and bird, I think dogs make training seem to easy. Not that I haven’t learned from teaching them, but I think working with the others who don’t really have that same “anything to please you attitude” (or “anything for food” attitude) is helping me learn how to work through difficulties and be more precise.

  2. That was cute. Who would have thought?

  3. now we have seen everything! BOL
