Scout a Search and Rescue Dog heled find those missing in Joplin after the tornado
Scout, is a Parson Russell Terrier who is a trained Search and Rescue Dog. Scout might be the littlest working dog after a disaster but that does not diminish the amount of work he can do. He can track scent just like the big dogs and can help family members find the bodies of loved ones that are buried deep under rubble. Without scent dogs, rescue workers and volunteers wouldn’t know where in the piles of rubble people once called their home to search for the missing. Scout and the other Search and Rescue dogs that went to help ensure that the 270 people initially listed as missing were all found and accounted for. In Joplin family and friends stood watch as Scout performed is job they watch and waited hoping he would find their loved one. Being small and cute he attracts more onlookers then the other dogs as people are awed that he performs the same tasks as dogs many times his size. As difficult as it was for the Search and Rescue Teams in Joplin, the presence of the human spirit, like neighbor helping neighbor, and the appreciation of the victim’s families for a little dog is something Scouts handler Jordon Hall will never forget.
