Organization Tips and DIY Dog Stuff Storage Bucket

It seems as though dog’s today have a great deal of “stuff”? Extra leashes and collars, grooming products, toys, winter clothing, flea and tick medication, heart worm medication, blankets and more, you can quickly find yourself overwhelmed with their belongings over taking your house. Not that have dog stuff everywhere is a bad thing but it often leads to not being able to find something when you need it which is why we suggest organizing all of your dog stuff and keeping it not only in one place but in a special storage bucket or container.

We know that in most homes and apartments space is at a premium and you can’t necessarily have an entire closet for your dogs stuff. Which means they are sharing space with a whole bunch of other things. That is why we decided to have our September Craft Project a DIY storage bin. If your dog has a lot of stuff then a bigger container that fits under your bed might be best but if you have a bigger dog or a dog without a lot of accessories a Bucket or small garbage can would be perfect.

Organization Tips

Tips #1 Go around your house and collect all of your dog stuff. Search high and low because chances are you have shoved stuff all over the place.

Tip #2 Go through everything. Is it clean, in good condition, does your dog still use it or need it, is it the right size?

Tip #3 Anything that could stand to be washed go ahead and wash before putting it away again. Not only will things be more organized but they will be clean and ready to use when you need them.

Tip #4 Anything that is gently used and you no longer want to keep set it aside to bring to your local animal shelter the next time you drive by. They will be thankful for the stuff and you will help clear out the clutter.

Do you know when you purchased your doggy shampoo or those first aid supplies? If you can’t remember when it was purchased or opened throw it out and replace with a new bottle that you mark with the date.

Tip #5 Get rid of old fur from grooming supplies and wash with soap and water. Grooming supplies get dirty and unless they are cleaned regularly they will have dirt and grim build up or worse spread fleas.

Tip #6 When you put away all of your dog’s stuff make sure that the container you choose is big enough to ensure there is space for everything.

Tip #7 If you are the type of person that forgets what they have if you can’t see it make a list of things you are storing in the container and leave it on the top. This way you know there should be a brush, an extra leash, and your dog’s visiting grandpa vacation tag.

Easy Doggy Supply Bucket

Supplies Needed:
Large bucket
Peel and stick letter decals
Mod Podge sealant (optional)

I found both of the main items in our sample picture on a recent shopping trip to Dollar Tree.

Directions:
1. Wipe the surface of the bucket clean so the decals will adhere well.
2. Before adhering any decals, decide how you want to arrange them and make small and light pencil marks for spacing purposes.
3. Peel and stick the decals in the words of your choice. For ours, we did our dog’s name on one side and “Bow Wow” and “Arf” on the opposite side.
4. For extra protection, you can apply a coat of Mod Podge or some similar sealant if you wish with a foam brush. Allow time to dry before using.

There you have it! You know how a heavy duty yet oh so cute doggy supply bucket perfect for holding all of your pet’s belongings. And the best part is, it only cost you a few bucks. This will leave you plenty of extra cash on hand to buy any little extras to fill your bucket with. Dog bones perhaps?

Happy crafting!
