Raids Continue at Wildlife Friends Foundation Thailand

Primate poked and proded by DNP officials

Several weeks ago we told you about the raids taking place at Wildlife Friends Foundation Thailand. The foundation has been targeted by government officials for calling them out as being complacent in recent elephant deaths so that baby elephants could be taken out of the wild and brought to tourist camps. Taking an elephant out of the wild is illegal in Thailand but the government was turning a blind eye to the deaths of numerous adults. WFFT spoke out about this and that is when the trouble started.

Wildlife Friends Foundation Thailand was raided by authorities and given 3 hours to produce the paperwork on the 400 wild animals that have come into their care over the years. Wildlife Friends Foundation Thailand is not a new organization and has been approved year after year for re-certification as a facility that can care for Wild Animals that can no longer live in the wild or be released back into the wild. All of the animals in their care have been rescued from horrible situations and are documented with the proper paperwork from the government. When the organization was unable to produce all 400 hundred documents in that time period they arrested the foundation creators wife and threw her in jail for illegally harboring wild animals. Since that day at the end of February countless animals have been unceremoniously removed from the sanctuary that they have called home to be taken to inadequate Thai Government Facilities somewhere in the country which they will not reveal. Many of the animals that the DNP removed were injured during their removal some from fright others from rough handling by the officials. There is only one sanctuary or zoo facility that has a full surgical suite on location for the care and treatment of the animals at the facility – Wildlife Friends Foundation Thailand.

The raids have continued because now the officials are angered that what they did was videoed and put online for the world to see. They have been shown all paperwork by the facility but refuse to look at it when it is brought out to the animal enclosures. Since they know the paperwork is in order and that they are in fact a fully certified facility they have now resorted to creating even more lies about the organization.
