Flexi Leash Review

About the Company:

Those who decide to own a dog must consider the necessary exercise for their pet. But what happens when it is not possible to let him run without a leash? This is exactly the question Manfred Bogdahn asked himself and he came up with the ingenious idea to develop a retractable dog leash.

With an appropriate amount of pioneering spirit, Manfred Bogdahn began the construction of his first
prototype. Not without consequences: he soon attracted the attention of other dog owners, and was
swamped with requests for this unusual dog leash. A business idea was born. More than three decades later, the flexi brand is a household name for happy dog owners worldwide. Like nothing else, it stands for controlled freedom of movement and the greatest handling comfort.

We were sent a Flexi Leash for review that I just didn’t feel comfortable using here in our neighborhood. I live on a block that is a circle and we have no sidewalks. During the day there are workmen, lawn maintenance crews, pools guys, and all sort of delivery trucks so I made the decision that the girls can use the leash but only when we are out in the country at my parents house. I am excited to try out the leash when we are in a safer location to see what the dogs think of having more freedom to run around and play but still be on a leash. Since I wanted to get a Review posted before Christmas I sent the leash home with my parents when they were down asking if they could try it out, take a few pictures, and let me know what they thought. Before we get into the review I do want to let you know that I ordered a leash made for a much larger dog because I was worried that the one made for small dogs just wouldn’t be sturdy enough for the girls which is how Whisper a Husky rescue could test it out for us in advance. This review was written by my dad.

Review:

Whisper enjoys the freedom but knows she is controlled and cannot run off into the forest.

Whisper responds well and is happier with the extra length she has for exploring. Leash is a really good product, it is well made, and sturdy for handling our Husky. The handle is light in weight and allows for good control when necessary. My mom is beginning to adjust to holding Whisper on the leash ( she had reservations at first) and preferred to use Whispers old leash which was really two leashes knotted together to give her a little extra room to roam around.

Whisper showing offer her Flexi Leash

Here is a little background of where the leash is being used.

My parents live in an 1100 acre golf course community. Whisper is walked on the street and on the paths on the golf course itself where there is grass and streams and lots of trees and other plants. The path follows the outer edge of the golf course so dogs are allowed to walk on it as long as they do their business on the non golf course side.

According to the community rules dogs must be walked on a leash. Though once in a while Whisper is allowed to go running with her friend whose dad has a golf cart and he will follow them all over the golf course. I guess my parents never paid attention to what people where using to walk their dogs with because they have realized that that others are using the leash and with even larger more active dogs (and still having control).

Recommendations
While my parents both really like the leash now it is also getting very cold where they live and of course getting darker earlier so they had a few suggestions they asked me to include in the review.
They think that there should be a larger grip for that way it is easy to use the Flexi Lead when they have gloves on. Maybe a clip for attaching a glove and maybe a mitt specially designed and made to attach during fall the mitten attachment would have been great to use when the wind was blowing. Unfortunately the special collar attachment is too small for Whispers neck so my parents cannot use that attachment and it will probably be too big for the girls to use either.

Since the area they live does not have street lights they feel a reflective strip or several reflective markings and maybe a small light attachment would be a plus for night walks. They don’t live in the city and the golf course goes right up to the National Forest so it gets very dark when the sun sets. The reflective strips would help passing cars to see them and the light would help keep the deer away not so sure about the bears.

I have been told to absolutely recommend this product for use in the proper environment and under the proper conditions. When you purchase the Flexi Leash please be sure to read the instruction booklet it comes with before ever attaching it to your dog. You should also watch the video so you can see the techniques in action.

We were sent one Flexi Leash for Review. We received no other compensation and the review is completely the opinion of our Reviewer and was not swayed in any manner.

    Please do drop in sometime.
We're dog folks and cat folk too!

  2. We have used Flexi leash for years (16 foot) so that our dog can swim. Otherwise she might swim to Texas! It works really well to keep her from swimming across the Gulf. Becky

  3. Even though most dog trainers are not into these kinds of leashes, we really like it for one of our dogs who isn't really ready to go off leash yet. It gives her a bit more freedom.

These aren't leashes for training your dog or necessarily for walking them in the city. It is for giving your dog more freedom in a safe environment where you can't or don't want to let them go completely off leash.
