Sunday March 2nd is Read Across America otherwise known as Dr. Seuss Day. Brigades of therapy dogs will be hitting the road Friday February 28th with their owners to visit schools and Children’s Hospitals across the country to read Dr. Seuss Books. To partake in the Dr. Seuss gun carefree spirit we decided to share some fun things you can do at home with your little ones. Today we are going to share 3 Dr. Seuss Decorations ideas with you and next week we will be sharing some crafts, snack ideas, and enrichment activities. Make sure to check back regularly so that you don’t miss any of our fun Dr. Seuss inspired activities. And be sure to pin them, shares them on Facebook, and tweet so that others get into the Dr. Seuss spirit too!

If you are going to be working as a therapy dog team and reading Dr. Seuss books with children we would love to know about it so that we can put together a post and share the inspiration the dogs brought to the children.

Read Across America
“You’re never too old, too wacky, too wild, to pick up a book and read to a child.”

In Dr. Seuss’s book The Lorax, the reader is taken into the colorful and crazy world of Truffula trees. These trees are so fun and unique, why not try to create some for your next Seuss themed gathering? Whether you are throwing a Seuss themed birthday party of exploring Seuss this month in your classroom, these Truffula trees are a great way to get into the Seuss spirit. Take a peek at how simple they are to make!

Truffula Trees Craft

Supplies needed for your Dr. Seuss Decorations:
Assorted craft pom poms
Pipe cleaners
Hot glue, glue gun
Vase of your choice

We were able to find all of the craft supplies we used at our local dollar store. Find colorful pom poms in non traditional colors such as the ones we used if you can. Our local dollar store sold a set in teal, chartreuse, and other fun and funky colors which were perfect for this project!

Directions:
1. Begin by cutting your pipe cleaners into an assortment on lengths and sizes. Truffula trees are all different, so you don’t want any to be the exact same length or height.
2. Add a generous dab of glue to the end of your pipe cleaner. Immediately press a pom pom to the end of the pipe cleaner. Press it to the glue for several seconds until it has adhered.
3. Twist the pipe cleaner around your finger to create a spiral, or simply bend and twist the pipe cleaners to have them going in a variety of directions.
4. Assemble the colorful Truffula trees into a vase of your choosing.

You can now display your Dr. Seuss Decorations: Truffula Trees Craft trees as a centerpiece at your next party or even at the place settings of each person. Either way, they are sure to add some Seuss spirit to your gathering.
